Afghan Visa: You must apply in advance for an Afghan visa as they are not
issued at Kabul international airport. Khorog In Dushanbe has an Afghan
consulate and you may be able to obtain a visa there.

In London the Afghan Visa can be obtained at the Afghan Embassy, 31 Prince's
gate, tel :+44 (0)20 7589 8891. It will cost aproximatly £30 for a three month visa.

The Afghan visa can also be obtained in Dubai within a few hours, this has
generally been hassle free. The Afghan consulate can be found behind the
immigration centre, an Afghan flag is flying, but most taxi drivers will know where
the immigration centre is.

Letter of Invitation: You will need a letter of invitation stating the purpose of
your visit. It may be possible for you to write an intinery of where you are going
and the mountains to be climbed this might sufice. If not, please send us an
e-mail and we will forward you onto Wakhan Tourism who will e-mail you a letter
of invitation for $20 per person.

Tajik Visa & GBAO: For those entering Afghanistan via Tajikistan a visa &
GBAO pass is required.

The Tajikistan visa & the GBAO permit can be obtained from the Tajikistan
embassy in London at Grove house. GBAO £50

The GBAO is the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast, this permit is required
for the bordering region of Tajikistan. If flying from Kabul it may be worth
obtaining one anyway, incase of security deteriation in Kabul and then having to
fly back from Dushanbe. This can also be obtained from a Tajik embassy.

Wakhan Permits: A series of letters to various governers and police are
collected from Faizabad and Ishkashim. Once these letters are approved you are
then given your Wakhan Permit. Wakhan Tourism collect specific letters from
Faizabad and will do as much preperation work before you arrive to make this
process as hassle free for you. For this service they charge $50 per person,
please e-mail us if you require this service and we will contact them directly.

It is prudent to allow a whole day in Ishkashim, it is advisable not to arrive on a
Thursday afternoon or a Friday as it is a weekend and offices are closed.

- Please bring with you at least four passport photographs, when you cross into
Afghanistan you have to fill in a registration, photos are needed for this.

CROSSING THE BORDER - TAJIK INTO AFGHANISTAN
