You must be totally self sufficient in terms of food in the Wakhan as the
local people do not have enough to sell or share. If you rely on the
hospitality of the local people you will be reducing what they have for the
difficult winter months.

Ishkashim is your last opportunity to purchase supplies so make sure you
have everything you need before you leave..

Cooks - Can be hired out for $20 a day (1000 Afghanis)

A number of cooks have been provided basic training in food preparation and
hygiene. They do not usually have their own equipment or set menus but they can
be a real asset at the end of a long day's trekking.

Equipment can be hired out at a very reasonable rate from Wakhan Tourism.

Guided amount for seven people for 23 days: (from expedition 2009)

30 kg of rice
20 kg of lentils,
8 - 10 kg on onions,
25kg of potatoes
40 packets of noodles,
6 - 8 large tins of tomoato puree
20 packs of the thick cream with jam and bread
sack of flour, which we had made into bread intermittendly throughout the trip....

The spices were pretty important to keep food interesting (would recommend buying in pasta)
Luxury items such as hot chocolate & coffee can be bought in Dushanbe
