returning to the area to trek, climb and meet the extraordinary people.

Why not come and experience for yourself this 'Other Afghanistan' and
discover new routes, virgin peaks, hidden valleys, Marco Polo sheep, snow
leopards, wolves, spectacular scenery and some of the most hospitable

About Mountain Unity International:

Mountain Unity International is a social enterprise set up to promote economic
development in north east Afghanistan, with a focus on mountain tourism.

The majestic Hindu Kush mountains have kept the local people safe from
invasion since the days before Alexander the Great. The Wakhan Corridor
offers a unique opportunity for climbers, trekkers and other mountain
environment enthusiasts to safely visit the Afghan Hindu Kush and Pamir
mountains.

Despite the good security life in this remote district is especially hard for its
inhabitants. Maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the world, and
many children die before the age of five due to the extreme poverty.

By co-ordinating and publicising mountain tourism, Mountain Unity aims to
provide sustainable livelihoods for the local people.

"Parapomisus' is an old word for the Hindu Kush, and means 'higher
than an eagle soars'. The legend has it that the range was so high that to
cross it even an eagle had to walk
